For all of the styles I've tried week after week, year after year, nothing has ever been as reliable as the ponytail. Loved for its versatility, despised for its damage, the ponytail is that one thing in my hair care routine I just accepted as the damaging hairstyle that I loved (and hated at times). I loved it because it was convenient for work and the gym, helped me to go throughout my week without constantly manipulating my hair, and could be a great style for a night out. But there was always backlash--I always felt at some point that I made it too tight, the hair that was secured by the hair tie quickly dried out, and I got so frustrated seeing all of my hair come out every time I used regular cotton hair ties.
After being on my natural hair journey for so many years, I realized this hair style was not as beneficial as I thought. I switched even to the softest and widest cotton hair ties but had the same damaging outcomes. I stopped doing so many ponytails and instead tried braids, silk presses, twists, and any other style I could try at the time. I quickly realized that my time and money were drained from trying so many things, so I came back to the drawing board. Instead of getting frustrated with the style, I decided to take a closer look at the hair ties I used that set me back in my routine.
There was nothing available that could fully satisfy my needs, so I began to brainstorm ways to maximize the hair tie. After doing research, I found that wrapping was the safest way to hold hair in place without creating tension on the scalp. The next step was finding the best material for this new hair tie. Cotton was too drying on the hair but silk was the best fabric option due to its smooth surface that glides on hair without absorbing moisture and creating friction. The final step was finding a way to secure the hair tie with the new wrapping method. Creating the Slate Bead was a crucial part of making it all come together. By combining all of these features, the Slate Scrunchie was born.
After launch, I began to see how the our community responded to the Slate Scrunchie. Immediately, customers and influencers began to see how convenient and comfortable the Slate Scrunchie is. It offered a seamless transition into their hair care routines, and they experienced the benefits right away. It is safe to say that I am so excited to see the wonderful responses to the Slate Scrunchie and can't wait to continue building and growing together.
